A Showcase of Innovation and Skill Development: HKN’s First-Ever Graduate Research Pitch Competition

By October 17, 2024 No Comments

This fall, IEEE-HKN held its first-ever Graduate Student Research Pitch Competition, an open event to provide researchers with a platform to hone their presentation skills. Participants had the unique opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of experienced researchers from industry and academia, receiving valuable feedback on refining their pitch and bringing their projects to the next level.

Participants from various disciplines were invited to share a three-minute research pitch and a three-slide presentation. The competition encouraged creativity while offering a chance to improve communication and pitch delivery—critical skills for researchers seeking to share their work effectively.

After an exciting round of presentations, the judges selected three winners:

  • Yuexing Hao, Cornell University – HUG Smart Sticker: Enhancing Personalized Intelligent Medication Management for Community-Dwelling Older Adults with an AIoT Intervention
  • Omar Rinchi, Missouri University of Science and Technology – Remote Breathing Monitoring Using LiDAR Technology
  • Amit Kumar Podder, North Carolina State University – Incentive Strategies for EV Charging Considering Grid Dynamics

The Pitch Competition not only gave participants the chance to showcase their research but also offered them personalized insights from established professionals in the field. As the competition grows, it will continue to serve as a platform for students to strengthen their ideas and presentation abilities.

We would like to thank all the participants and judges for their enthusiasm and commitment, and we look forward to seeing these innovative ideas develop further in the future!
