Old Dominion University, Zeta Upsilon Chapter

The Zeta Upsilon Chapter of IEEE–Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) was originally chartered on May 14, 1971. After a period of inactivity, the chapter was recently reestablished, renewing its commitment to recognizing academic excellence and professional achievement within the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, and related fields.

Through its recent reestablishment, the chapter seeks to foster a renewed sense of community, collaboration, and professional growth among its members, campus partners, including the ODU IEEE chapter, and alumni throughout the greater Hampton Roads area.

“

I wanted to reactivate the Zeta Upsilon Chapter because it had long been a shared goal of both the ODU Electrical & Computer Engineering Department and IEEE-HKN, who fully supported the effort. More importantly, I wanted to create a community where high-achieving students could connect, collaborate, and support one another in their engineering journeys. My vision was to provide a space where both graduate students and outstanding undergraduates could build meaningful relationships and grow together with their shared dedication to academic excellence, character, and professional development.

I wanted to join ODU IEEE-HKN for the opportunity to network with fellow electrical engineering students and professionals with similar goals. I believe that every student is stronger together. I’m very thankful for this opportunity!

Seeing our chapter inactive for so many years felt like a missed opportunity for engineering students. Reinstating IEEE-HKN Zeta Upsilon meant creating a space where students can grow, build meaningful connections, develop leadership skills, and inspire one another beyond the classroom. Being part of bringing that legacy back has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my graduate journey.
