IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu has expanded its reach in Region 6 (Western US) by installing the Nu Upsilon Chapter at California State University, Sacramento! Welcome to the HKN family, Nu Upsilon Chapter!
2016 IEEE-HKN President S.K. Ramesh presided over the installation on 6 March 2026 where eleven students and seven professional members took the oath to uphold HKN’s tenets of Scholarship, Character, and Attitude. While every installation is a cause for celebration, this particular event was years in the making and carried a deep personal significance.

Dr. Ramesh was a faculty member at Sacramento State for almost two decades and Chair of the EEE Department there from 1994 until 2006 when he moved to California State University, Northridge. Current Professor and HKN Alumnus Kevin Geoghegan, also in attendance, was Sacramento State’s IEEE Student Branch Chair when Ramesh was the Student Branch Counselor. Reflecting on this full-circle moment, Ramesh shared:
“This was extra special for me personally as I began my career right here at Sacramento State and spent almost two decades here before moving to California State University, Northridge in 2006. Meeting colleagues and students from my time at Sacramento State made for an unforgettable day!”
Thank you Dr. Ramesh and congratulations to the charter members and all involved in making this dream a reality!
