Irvine, CA

The city of Irvine is named after James Irvine who acquired the land in 1866. After passing in 1947, his son James Irvine Jr succeeded and incorporated The Irvine Company to manage and oversee the city’s development. Later the University of California asked for 1000 acres to build a new campus. The request was sold for $1. Later the state purchased another 500 acres. As of 2016, the City of Irvine has a population of 266,122 and has steadily increased since the 1970s.
