Lawrence, Kansas
Lawrence was founded in 1854 by a group of abolitionists from Massachusetts. While most people currently know the city as the home to the University of Kansas, its rich history dates all the way back to the Civil War and “Bleeding Kansas”.

You can find the university’s campus in the center of the town stretching across several steep hills, most notably Mount Oread. If you go down the hill to the east, you can find the city’s downtown district. Along “Mass” Street, which is short for Massachusetts and named after the city’s founders, there are several local restaurants that will have you coming back for seconds.
